How does Dermal Fillers work?

It can also add fullness and definition to lips in patients over 21 years, providing natural-looking and lasting results with just one treatment.

Dermal Fillers works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. About the Treatment

Treatment with a dermal filler typically takes less than one hour (individual treatment times may vary). Generally, there is little to no downtime associated with treatment .

Talk to your healthcare professional about options to make you as comfortable as possible during the procedure and pain medication.

  1. Your healthcare professional will cleanse and prepare the area(s) to be treated.
  2. The clear gel dermal filler  is injected into the treatment area(s) using an ultra-fine needle to create the desired aesthetic effect.

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

What exactly is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body in one or two days so is constantly replaced—as we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturising and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease. Hyaluronic acid is used for aesthetic treatments, and has been used by doctors for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as eye surgery.

How long is an appointment?

The injection process takes a mere 15-30 minutes.

Will the procedure hurt?

The smooth consistency of the DERMAL FILLERS allows your medical practitioner to administer it easily and smoothly. It also contains 0.3% lidocaine to reduce injection pain for a more comfortable experience. At Shimmian Manila we may give pain reliever 30 minutes prior to treatment, we put anesthetic gel and for very sensitive patients our doctor does nerve blocks.

Will I notice the difference right away?

Yes, the aesthetic results are immediate. You’ll see the results as soon as your appointment is over—and no one else needs to know!

Will I need to take time off work?

Absolutely not! You can have an appointment in your lunch hour then get right back to your normal routine.

Are there any side effects?

Following injection, you may experience slight redness, swelling or bruising at the injected area. Your medical practitioner must advise on this. Please be assured that these side effects should not last and, after waiting 12 hours following treatment, can be easily covered up with your usual makeup. However, do not hesitate to get in touch with your medical practitioner in the unlikely event that these reactions last longer than a week or if you experience other side effects. All skin injection procedures carry a small risk of infection.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

  • Avoid using aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
  • Talk with your healthcare professional if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores. He or she may prescribe a medication to minimize recurrence.

Post-Treatment Checklist

  • Use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
  • Avoid touching the treated area for the first six hours following treatment, so you do not accidentally injure your skin while the area is numb. After six hours, the area can be gently washed with soap and water.
  • Avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or cold.
  • Reduce the risk of facial cold sore recurrence that could be caused by needle punctures. Talk with your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak.
  • Avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St John’s wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

How long does treatment last?

The dermal filler instantly adds volume to help restore youthful contours, so you’ll see results immediately following your treatment. There is little to no downtime.
In a clinical study of laugh lines (nasolabial folds), at least 95% of patients treated continued to see results for up to 18 months after initial treatment when patients returned for a follow-up treatment at 4.5 or nine months.

The Restylane Regimen gives you a look that lasts.

What is the Restylane Regimen?

It’s a way to help you get the most out of your Restylane treatments. The Restylane Regimen is a treatment plan that involves an initial treatment and a follow-up treatment 4.5 or nine months later. On average, only half the amount of Restylane injectable gel used at the initial treatment was needed to achieve full correction at the follow-up treatment.

Restylane is the only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved to last up to 18 months from initial treatment of moderate to severe nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) when patients followed the Restylane Regimen.

With Restylane injectable gel, time is on your side

At least 95% of patients saw results for up to 18 months when they followed the Restylane Regimen.

In a clinical study treating the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (laugh lines), Restylane continued to provide improvement for up to 18 months after initial treatment, when each line received a follow-up treatment at 4.5 or nine months.

Using the Restylane Regimen, patients showed similar improvement, on average, at 18 months compared to their Week 2 Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale (WSRS) score

Note: The Restylane Regimen does not apply to Restylane for lip enhancement.

In a clinical study of Restylane for lip enhancement, Restylane provided results for up to 6 months with one treatment.

In three clinical studies of 150 patients each, on average 70% of patients maintained improvement for six months after just one Perlane® treatment.

What is Full Correction?

Full correction means using just the right amount of products in the Restylane® family in the appropriate treatment areas of your face to get the beautiful results you want.

These images are unretouched photographs of real patients treated with Restylane injectable gel who have received full correction in the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). After your treatment, you may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days.

Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

If you’re like most people in a patient satisfaction survey, full correction will give you a lift you’ll love. Results from a survey of 1325 people who received full correction with Restylane showed*:

*Full correction with Restylane Program Questionnaire Final Results and Summary (n=1325). February 12, 2009. Data on file, Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation. In a 2008–2009 survey study, patients were treated to full correction. Results based on responses from 1325 patients.
